Pupils of Elementary Classes of Private Schools Also to Be Provided Free Textbooks by State

The state provides free textbooks at the expense of the state budget the pupils from the first to the fourth classes only the state schools by the law on Education. The deputy of the NA Civil Contract Faction Sisak Gabrielyan proposes to amend the law, according to which, all the children of the elementary classes, irrespective of the circumstance, they study at the state or non-state school will get the books free.

At the author has informed, today 150.000 children study in the elementary schools of the state schools, and more than 4000 children in the non-state schools.

The member of the RA NA Standing (Head) Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Hasmik Hakobyan presented the endorsement of the Committee. According to her, the draft law eliminates the discriminatory attitude. The MP has noted that during the previous convocation of the National Assembly the Committee also received numerous complaints related to the inequality existing in obtaining textbooks. Hasmik Hakobyan called on her colleagues to vote for the initiative.

In her co-report the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan voiced the positive viewpoint of the Government. She noted that the executive body presented proposal, which was accepted.

The draft law was debated in the first reading at January 17 NA sitting.
